This intensive one day hands-on course is the perfect jump-start to incorporating the latest endodontic technologies directly into your practice.  The course will be held at the brand new state of the art training centre at Wright Millners in Johannesburg. Each delegate is equipped with his own workstation and desktop microscope. The entire course is practical orientated with either Prof Peet van der Vyver demonstrating, or participants working in extracted teeth, all day long.

Aim and Objectives

Upon completion of this one-day hands-on workshop the participating clinicians should understand:

Session 1 – Managing Access, location of canals and negotiation of root canals

Using access burs and ultrasonic tips to create ideal access openings

  • How to negotiate blocked/ calcified root canals using C+ files
  • Have gained practical experience using access burs, X-gates, Start-X Ultrasonic tips and C+ files

Session 2 – Managing Root Canals using ProTaper Universal System

Have gained practical experience in using PathFiles to create a Glide Path.

  • Have gained practical experience using rotary (ProTaper) instruments.
  • Difficulty in locating canal orifices, especially the MB2.
  • Learn how to manage curves in the coronal, middle and apical third of root canal systems

Session 3 – Obturation materials and techniques

Have a understanding of obturation techniques available

  • Advantages and disadvantages of different obturation techniques
  • Have hands-on experience with Calamus and Thermafil systems

Pre-Course Preparation

A free folder containing articles and information on the materials and techniques that will be discussed during the course will be sent to registered participants, so that clinicians arrive conceptually prepared, and ready to apply insight towards a hands-on understanding of the techniques.

Each participant must please bring:

(a)  At least 2 extracted, un-accessed, closed apex teeth (that can be root treated) (one molar and one premolar, no wisdom teeth). Please do not mount your teeth in plaster or impression material, special holders will be provided for this.

(b)  A sharp Endo probe and tweezers

Each delegate is equipped with his own workstation and desktop microscope. The entire course is practical orientated with either Prof Peet van der Vyver demonstrating, or participants working in extracted teeth, all day long.

Aim and Objectives

Upon completion of this one-day hands-on workshop the participating clinicians should understand:

Session 2 – Managing Root Canals using the NEW Wave One System

Have gained practical experience in using PathFiles to create a Glide Path.

  • Have gained practical experience using reciprocating (Wave One) instruments.  (Wave One Nickel Titanium instruments consist of 3 files and you use 1 file to shape a canal in most cases. This means no time wasted time changing files during the procedure and also less chance of separation as well as having to hold less inventory).
  • Difficulty in locating canal orifices, especially the MB2.
  • Learn how to manage curves in the coronal, middle and apical third of root canal systems.

Session 3 – Obturation materials and techniques

  • Have an understanding of obturation techniques available.
  • Advantages and disadvantages of different obturation techniques.
  • Have hands-on experience with Calamus and Thermafil systems.
